Teronado ready for next Randwick run

Sunday 11 October 2015, 2:44pm

Comeback galloper Teronado's liking for big tracks means he will have one more run in Sydney before heading to Melbourne for the rest of the spring.

Placed in the 2014 Rosehill Guineas, Teronado suffered a career-threatening injury when he was stripped on a hind leg in the 2014 George Main Stakes at Randwick.

After surgery and a long spell Teronado was able to return to racing and showed he was near his best when he finished strongly for sixth in the Group One Epsom Hcp (1600m) on October 3.

His Gold Coast trainer Bruce Hill is keen to get to Melbourne with Teronado but is not so keen to start the big striding gelding at Caulfield or Moonee Valley.

"His run in the Epsom was very good and it showed what he can do," Hill said.

"He likes big tracks so his efforts around smaller tracks such as Doomben have been even better than they look.

"We want to get him to Melbourne for the races at Flemington where he has raced very well.

"One of his best efforts was in the Australian Guineas at Flemington when he was fifth but ran the best final sectionals of the race."

He said the plan was to run Teronado in a 1600m-benchmark race at Randwick on Saturday.

"That should have him cherry ripe to go to Melbourne. He has really bloomed in Sydney and I think he can run some big races in Melbourne," Hill said.

Glen Colless will go to Sydney to reclaim the ride of Teronado after Jason Collett rode him in the Epsom.
