Too Good to Refuse to test Champion field

Tuesday 6 October 2015, 5:58pm

Desleigh Forster is no stranger to travelling horses down the Pacific Highway from Brisbane to Sydney.

What is a little different this time around is that the trainer is bringing a colt which is seen as a major threat in a Group One race.

Too Good To Refuse is an $8 chance in Saturday's Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick with the Chris Waller-trained Vanbrugh dominating the early markets at $1.80 ahead of Tatoosh at $6.

If there are any chinks in the favourite's armour, Forster hopes Too Good To Refuse can expose them although she admits Brisbane form is hard to line up against what he will meet on Saturday.

"The only guide I have is that he finished third to John Thompson's filly up here in August and he lost a plate in the race," Forster said.

Thompson's filly is Honesta who finished second in a three-way photo finish to Saturday's Group One Flight Stakes.

Since that race in August, Too Good To Refuse has won twice at Doomben over 1350m and 1640m.

Too Good To Refuse will be accompanied on Thursday's float trip by I'm Belucci, an outsider in the Spring Champion, and Cylinder Beach who runs in a benchmark race on the Randwick program.

"They are all good mates travelling together," Forster said.

"Too Good To Refuse is beautiful little horse.

"He's very laid back and will cope with the trip.

"I'm Belucci is a big strong colt and I'm happy where he's at. He raced on Saturday and has come through well."

Robbie Fradd is the regular rider of both colts but sticks with Too Good To Refuse with Tom Clark to ride I'm Belucci.

The Spring Champion Stakes is the final Group One race of the Sydney spring.
