Press Statement top choice in Guineas

Tuesday 6 October 2015, 6:17am

Press Statement is the clear-cut favourite to continue the recent domination of Sydney-trained three-year-olds in the Caulfield Guineas.

The Chris Waller-trained colt will be having his first start in Melbourne when he lines up in the Group One race on Saturday.

Press Statement stamped his authority on the Guineas with an impressive three-length victory in the Group Two Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on September 26.

The past four winners have been Helmet (2011), All Too Hard (2012), Long John (2013) and Shooting To Win last year.

Press Statement is at $2.30 over Ready For Victory at $8.50 with Bassett and Dal Cielo next best at $9.

The market is much wider for the fillies in the Thousand Guineas on Saturday with Pasadena Girl and Stay With Me sharing the top line at $4.40.

The pair finished out of the money behind Miss Gunpowder when they met in the Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 26.

Over the extra distance the favoured pair are expected to bounce back.

Miss Gunpowder and Badawiya are on the next line at $5 ahead of Sacred Eye at $8.

Final fields with barriers will be finalised on Tuesday.
