Moir Stakes highlights Valley meeting

Friday 2 October 2015, 6:33am

The Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley will kick off a big weekend of Group One racing in two states.

Friday night's 1000m weight-for-age Moir Stakes is the first of five Group One races to be run over the next three days with three top-level races on the Epsom Handicap program in Sydney on Saturday followed by the Turnbull Stakes meeting at Flemington on Sunday.

A field of 13 is set to line up in the $450,000 Moir with unbeaten filly Petits Filous firming from $2.35 favourite to $2.15.

The Ciaron Maher-trained three-year-old has won four races against her own age in the past few months and will be having her first test against older horses.

Fellow three-year-old filly Fontiton is at $5 while dual Moir winner Buffering is at $6.50.

A four-time Group One winner, eight-year-old Buffering will reach a milestone $5 million prize money if successful.

Friday night's meeting also includes the Group Two Stocks Stakes (1600m) for mares, the Group Two Stutt Stakes for three-year-olds and the Group Three JRA Cup (2040m).
