Singapore star to race at Cranbourne

Thursday 1 October 2015, 8:34am

Singapore's juvenile champion Super One will make his Australian debut at Cranbourne in preparation for the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Trainer Michael Freedman has confirmed the unbeaten colt will run in the Apache Cat Classic (1000m) on October 11, the day after he comes out of quarantine.

"The 1000 metres was most appealing for us to kick off with. It fits in well for the program ahead of him," Freedman told the Cranbourne Turf Club.

"Given he won't have had a run since the end of July, the 1000 metres was more appealing than some of the other races we were considering for him over 1100 and 1200 metres."

Super One, who has won all his four starts in Singapore, will race as a three-year-old in Australia.

"It's always difficult to accurately know how they'll line up against some Australian based horses, but he's in great condition and from what he's shown me so far he's up to it," Freedman said.

"If I've ever had one worth taking back to Australia and having a crack at the feature races, then he's been the most likely candidate."

Newgate Farm has bought into Super One who will remain in Australia to race in the autumn.

Hugh Bowman has been booked to ride Super One in the Coolmore at Flemington on October 31 and will also be aboard at Cranbourne depending on the weight the colt gets in the Apache Cat.
