Pornichet heads Waterhouse's Randwick team

Gai Waterhouse's spring carnival will step up a gear as the Randwick trainer assembles a strong team for George Main Stakes day at Randwick.

Cox Plate hopeful Pornichet will represent Tulloch Lodge in the Saturday's Group One race, his final start in Sydney ahead of a Melbourne campaign.

Pornichet was runner-up in the Warwick Stakes first-up and finished a solid sixth behind Complacent in the Chelmsford Stakes, performances which have heartened Waterhouse.

"I think he's going super," Waterhouse said.

Blake Shinn rode at the Makybe Diva Stakes program at Flemington on Saturday but Waterhouse confirmed he would be back in Sydney to continue his partnership with Pornichet.

Waterhouse will have at least two runners in the Tea Rose Stakes, Flamboyant Lass and the consistent Kimberley Star.

Percy Sykes Stakes placegetter Sempre Libera is under consideration to join the pair.

Like Sempre Libera, Flamboyant Lass showed promise as a two-year-old and was placed in the Blue Diamond fillies Prelude.

She returned with a dominant win against older mares at Warwick Farm last month and Waterhouse has no doubt she can get the job done against her own age and gender at stakes level.

"She's the most improved horse at Tulloch Lodge," Waterhouse said.

The stable is also looking to run Grafton Cup winner Bonfire in the Hill Stakes (1900m), a race premier trainer Chris Waller will target with several of his stayers.

Waller ran 11 horses in the Chelmsford Stakes last week and while the two placegetters from that race, Kermadec and Royal Descent, will go to the George Main, many of his others will step up in distance.

Waller unearthed a Metropolitan chance at Rosehill on Saturday when former Hong Kong galloper Silverball won the Kingston Town Stakes.
