Boss shocked at copping 10 meeting ban

Saturday 12 September 2015, 7:33pm

A furious Glen Boss will appeal a suspension that threatens to rule him out of the ride on Kermadec in the George Main Stakes, and has taken a swipe at a fellow jockey.

Boss was banned for 10 meetings after stewards ruled he caused Craig Williams' mount Boston Light to lose his running inside the last 150m in Saturday's Danehill Stakes by shifting in on the winner Kinglike.

Boss argued that Damien Oliver shifted out on Ready For Victory and there was no way he could be held fully responsible for the incident, saying Williams was already in trouble before he even arrived on the scene.

In a heated exchange with Racing Victoria's chief steward Terry Bailey, Boss claimed Oliver was a "protected species".

Bailey took offence at the remark.

"I can assure you we treat all riders the same," Bailey told Boss, before adding he was disappointed in the comment.

Boss won the race on Kinglike and labelled the stewards decision to suspend him for careless riding as "ridiculous".

"I'm gobsmacked, to be very honest," Boss said.

"You are satisfied I'm 100 per cent responsible. There must something dreadfully wrong in this room, you can stand there and tell me 100 per cent I caused this incident."

Stewards said Oliver shifted out on Ready For Victory earlier and had Williams tight between runners but then straightened his mount.

They found Boss guilty of not leaving enough room for the three horses between his mount and Ready For Victory, causing Williams to check.

Dwayne Dunn was suspended for 10 meetings for careless riding early in the same race on Headwater.
