Last Bullet ready for Danehill Stakes test

Wednesday 9 September 2015, 2:52pm

The Danehill Stakes represents the biggest test in the short career of Adelaide-based colt Last Bullet but trainer John Hyam believes the three-year-old is up to the challenge.

A winner of the Group Three Breeders' Stakes in Adelaide as a juvenile, Last Bullet resumed with a narrow win in a small field at Morphettville last month when he fought back after being headed in the straight.

Last Bullet makes his Melbourne debut in Saturday's Group Two Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington against 11 rivals including stakes winners Ready For Victory, Headwater, Black Vanquish and Well Sprung.

Hyam has faith in the colt's untapped ability and is aiming him towards the Caulfield Guineas.

"I don't think he's really been tested yet so I'm looking forward to it," Hyam said.

"The only worry I've got is down the straight.

"If it was at Moonee Valley, one of those sorts of tracks, I'd be a lot more confident.

"But just down the straight, being a bit green still, they can get a bit lost."

Last Bullet, who gave Hyam a breakthrough stakes win earlier this year, is a half-sister to Hollow Bullet who won the Group One VRC Oaks in 2004 and the Group One Storm Queen Stakes a year later.

Vlad Duric takes the ride on Saturday.
