The weather holds the key to whether Group One placegetter Teronado heads back to Sydney this spring.

Teronado is on the comeback trail after he suffered a career-threatening injury when stripped on a hind leg in last year's George Main Stakes at Randwick.

The gelding, third in Criterion's 2014 Rosehill Guineas, has had two trials and two starts after a lengthy spell including an eye-catching third over 1350 metres on Saturday.

Teronado dropped out last but made up ground in the straight to finish a length from in-form galloper Steel Zip.

Trainer Bruce Hill and managing owner Steve Foster will monitor Teronado in the next few days before making up their minds about his future plans.

He will either stay in Brisbane for one more run in a fortnight or head to Sydney for the George Main Stakes (1600m) on the same day.

"The weather is probably a key as he does not handle wet tracks and Sydney has had a lot of rain," Hill said.

"He is coming along nicely but we have always intended a softly, softly campaign with him," Hill said.

Steel Zip is also likely to stay in Brisbane with trainer Pat Duff having to revise plans to run him in the benchmark series for grey horses in Melbourne.

"He has probably raced himself out of contesting that series," Duff said.

"Steel Zip has never raced better and I can probably put it down to two things."

"Firstly farrier Peter O'Sullivan has done a lot of work with him and secondly he loves beach work."

"I reckon he clocks up about eight kilometres a day just pottering around the beach each day."
