Stay With Me breaks through at Pakenham

Thursday 20 August 2015, 3:20pm

Impeccably bred filly Stay With Me has broken through for her maiden victory on the all-weather track at Pakenham.

The three-year-old daughter of Golden Slipper-winner Miss Finland will try to emulate the feat of her dam by winning the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield in October.

Miss Finland was the best of her generation and besides the Golden Slipper claimed the Thousand Guineas, the VRC Oaks, the Australian Guineas and Arrowfield Stakes during her three-year-old year.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said the Thousand Guineas was the target for the filly.

"If she can emulate something similar to what her mum did we'll have a damn good horse on our hands," Dabernig told Racing Live.

"I think she's pretty classy."

Big things are expected from Stay With Me, who chased home Group One-winner Pasadena Girl at Flemington on debut before heading to Sydney where she raced aggressively in the Reisling Stakes when finishing fifth behind English.

Dabernig said the Lindsay Park stable has been doing a lot of work in getting the filly to settle, adding there was a lot of improvement to come from her.

"I think if her racing manners are right she'll get a mile, but beyond that I'm not really sure," Dabernig said.

"She's always shown us she's a high class horse and she's in at the right time of year."

Winning jockey Dwayne Dunn was glowing in his report after the win.

"She's pretty good," he said.

"We wanted to come here and win but had to think about the future with her as well.

"She really pinned her ears back and charged to the line which going forward is a great trait to have."
