Setinum will head to the opening Group One race of the season after his first-up win in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trainer Shane Fliedner confirmed he has the Memsie Stakes in his sights after Setinum's fine return.

A pick-up ride for Dwayne Dunn, Setinum ($21) scored by three-quarters of a length over Platinum Rocker ($13) with Yesterday's Song's ($5 favourite) an unlucky third, a half-neck further away.

Despite the horse's long odds, Fliedner was confident he had Setinum in good order for his return after giving him a quiet trial at Cranbourne on Monday.

"I took him to the trials the other day and he had a soft trial and went unnoticed a little bit," Fliedner said.

"He wasn't far off fast horses and I really liked him today.

"He was relaxed and he should have a good campaign going forward."

Fliedner said he's looking forward to the challenge of stepping the horse up to Group One weight-for-age company in the Memsie.

"He wasn't far off a few Group One horses last time in and these types of horses have to take the step, but he's on the right path," Fliedner said.

"He hasn't beaten fantastic horses today but once he gets to 1400 metres and a mile, he'll show his best."

Dunn was impressed with the victory after being told to keep the son of Holy Roman Emperor away from other gallopers in the run.

"He's a nice horse and he's going to win a nice race but whether it's a Group One at this point of time, I'm not sure," Dunn said.
