The 2013 Caulfield Cup runner-up Dandino has taken another step on his path towards a spring carnival comeback with a jumpout at Ballarat.

Dandino, now in the care of leading Victorian trainer Darren Weir, went around in an 800m jumpout with two stablemates on Wednesday and managing owner Darren Dance from Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock said everything had so far gone to plan in the horse's rehabilitation from injury.

Dandino was second in the 2013 Caulfield Cup and fifth in the Melbourne Cup.

He returned to Australia under the care of trainer Marco Botti last spring for another crack at the Cups but was ruled out only days before the Caulfield Cup because of a suspensory ligament issue.

"We've been really happy with the horse to date," Dance said.

"It's been a long rehab program and so far so good, everything has gone to plan.

"We've had the long-range plan to get him back for the spring."

Dandino is likely to have two more trials or jumpouts and be put under more pressure before a scheduled return to the races.

Dance said the aim has been to try to have another crack at the Caulfield Cup with Dandino but the horse has to qualify.
