Training partnership goes separate ways

Tuesday 28 July 2015, 1:25pm

Bruce Elkington is stepping away from his training partnership with Jamie Edwards at the start of the new racing season on Friday.

Edwards and Elkington were the first trainers granted a partnership in 2007 that were non-family members in Victoria.

Elkington said his decision to step away from the partnership was the right time to slow down and explore other opportunities in the racing industry.

"I have enjoyed my time working with Jamie, especially the success brought to the partnership by our top class galloper Sertorius," Elkington said.

"My departure from the partnership has been amicable and I wish Jamie and all of our owners all the very best for the future."

Elkington's career in racing has spanned almost 50 years beginning with his father Meggs as a 15 year-old.

Career highlights include the victory of Birchwood in the 1982 Turnbull Stakes, the 1982 Tasmanian Derby and 1983 Hobart Cup with Palomine and Bow Mistress winning the 1984 Liston Stakes while also filled a place in the Oakleigh Plate.

While training in his own right, Elkington also assisted his father with the pair taking the 1988 Caulfield Guineas with Vitalic, who was placed another six times at Group One level.
