Waller looks long-term with Tremezzina

Wednesday 15 July 2015, 1:45pm

Filly Tremezzina has converted her barrier trial promise into raceday success with a debut win in the opening event at Warwick Farm.

Trainer Chris Waller believes the two-year-old can measure up to stakes company provided she is patiently managed.

He said he would resist the temptation to push her towards the early spring races for fillies and instead focus on next year's Sydney autumn carnival.

"With fillies like this, they haven't been burnt out as two-year-olds, they're not quite as good as the early three-year-old fillies and if you accept that, you back off and come back in after the first of October ready to have another kill," Waller said.

"Then they can often join up with the (better fillies in the) P J Bells and your James Carrs in the autumn."

Tye Angland positioned Tremezzina midfield and she tracked three-wide with cover before hooking to the outside in the straight.

Once balanced, the $2.70 favourite finished powerfully to win the TAB.com.au Plate by 1-1/2 lengths over Self Esteem with Way Too Good holding on for third.

Waller notched an early double with Rockolicious in the Ruben Guthrie In Cinemas July 16 Handicap, a win that propelled Blake Shinn into equal first alongside James McDonald in the Sydney jockeys' premiership.
