Ciaron Maher in line for more winter wins

Friday 10 July 2015, 6:49am

Kapour just failed to add the Grafton Cup to Ciaron Maher's list of stakes wins this winter but the trainer might not have to wait long his next feature win.

The Maher-trained Srikandi claimed a Group One double in the Stradbroke Handicap and Tatt's Tiara during the Queensland carnival while import Kapour won the Listed Winter Cup at Rosehill late last month.

On Thursday, Kapour finished a neck second to Bonfire in the Listed $150,000 Grafton Cup won by Bonfire.

Maher has Hard Romp in Saturday's $150,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final at Flemington and two chances, Bashboy and Regina Coeli, in Sunday's $100,000 Crisp Steeplechase at Warrnambool.

Bashboy won the Thackeray Steeplechase at Warrnambool last month but was pulled out of the Mosstrooper Steeplechase at Bendigo.

Maher said Bashboy schooled well on Wednesday and wold appreciate a softer track at Warrnambool.

He believes Regina Coeli is better suited under handicap conditions but the Grand Annual winner takes her place in the Crisp on the way to the Grand National Steeplechase ahead of a possible trip to New Zealand.
