Rose Pattern scores third win on end

Tuesday 1 January 2013, 2:23pm

The beautifully-bred Rose Pattern, already one of the more valuable mares in Australia, became even more so after scoring her third successive win at Flemington on Tuesday.

And if trainer David Hayes' opinion is anywhere near the mark, she will have added even more to her value by the end of the autumn.

Rose Pattern is by super sire Redoute's Choice from the well-performed Strategic mare Fair Embrace and was bred by her owner Gerry Harvey, making any price tag attached to her merely notional.

"My job now is to find a black-type race for her," Hayes said.

"There are a few around, I just want to keep her to 1400 metres for now."

Rose Pattern followed her wins at Rosehill and Caulfield with her latest victory in the Riverside Handicap (1400m), thanks largely to the initiative of her apprentice rider Chad Schofield.

Hayes said he believed Rose Pattern races best with cover, but with none on offer in the early stages, Schofield allowed her to run to the front.

"Chad made an executive decision, that's what makes him a very good rider," he said.

Rose Pattern ($8) seemed certain to be caught at the 200m but she found plenty under Schofield's persuasion to score by a short half-head from Motto's Gem ($15).

Street Diamond ($21) ran on well to be the same distance away in third place.

The unlucky runner of the race was the favourite Classic Elle who failed to get clear until too late and finished fourth, only a head behind the winner.
