Alannah Fancourt gets her city chance

Thursday 2 July 2015, 12:46pm

Apprentice Alannah Fancourt's recent success has earned her a chance to break her Saturday metropolitan meeting duck.

Fancourt will ride consistent galloper Double Impact in the Campaign Group Handicap (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Double Impact was set to make his return to racing in the Listed Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba in early May but trainer Jackie Crompton decided to delay his return.

"There were no suitable races for him. We wanted to get him out to around 1600m but there were either stakes races or nothing so we delayed his comeback," Crompton said.

Fancourt has ridden three city class midweek winners in the past fortnight and also won on the promising I Doubt I Can at the Gold Coast last Saturday.

Fancourt, who will concentrate on city racing full-time from the new season in August, has not won a Saturday metropolitan race.

However, that doesn't worry Crompton who believes Fancourt's three-kilo claim can swing things in the favour of Double Impact.

"Larnie has been riding very well and she is ready to ride in town on Saturdays. I am sure she will be in demand with her 3kgs city claim in coming months," Crompton said.

Double Impact hasn't run since finishing fifth in an open handicap over 2100m at Doomben in January.

However, Double Impact has won first up and been placed a further three times.

"He won his previous start at the Sunshine Coast over 2200m beating Jumbo Prince (who was later placed in the Queensland Derby) but he can sprint well fresh."

"Double Impact has ben a wonderful horse for us. He raced as a two-year-old and is now rising seven but he has won every season."

Fancourt has also been booked to ride her master, Tony Gollan's, smart galloper Vienna Royale in the IGA Three-Year-Old (1000m), providing the track is not too wet for that horse come Saturday.
