Exciting kiwi stayer sold to Hong Kong

Wednesday 1 July 2015, 10:31am

Eagle Farm Cup winner Werther has been sold and will do his future racing in Hong Kong.

Formerly trained by New Zealand horseman Andrew Campbell, Werther has been bought by Hong Kong clients of Sydney-based trainer Gary Moore in what was reportedly a seven-figure deal.

Moore confirmed the three-year-old would be aimed at next year's Hong Kong Derby.

"Werther is a wonderful acquisition to the stable and he looks a perfect candidate for the 2016 Hong Kong Derby," Moore told sales company Magic Millions which facilitated the deal.

Werther had 13 starts for Campbell and was runner-up in the South Australian and Queensland Derbies.

He defeated older horses including Group One winners Moriarty and Foreteller n his Eagle Farm Cup victory in May.
