Golden Falls impresses in $100k BRC Plate

Saturday 27 June 2015, 2:27pm

Lightly raced filly Golden Falls put herself on the stakes trail with her outstanding win in the $100,000 BRC Plate at Doomben on Saturday.

Gold Coast galloper Lucky Tom ($4.80) looked certain to win when he was two lengths clear at the 200m but Golden Falls ($6) came with a withering burst to win by two lengths.

The usually conservative trainer Kelly Schweida admitted he was thinking about black-type races for Golden Falls after she made up 12 lengths from the 600m.

"The owners are breeders and as you saw she is pretty good. I have nothing solid in mind but I think she will run at least 1600 metres and we will look for something around that trip for her," Schweida said.

Winning jockey Glen Colless said Golden Falls should have won her previous start at the Sunshine Coast.

Trainer John Morrisey's commitment to horses by the New Zealand stallion Bachelor Duke led to a big payday in the $100,000 Brisbane Town Plate.

Morrisey's gelding Water Boy, who was backed from $31 into $21, scored a 2-1/4 length win over Carmenere ($17).

Water Boy is by Bachelor Duke who is also the sire of Morrisey's former handy galloper Emerald Duke.

"Emerald Duke won four out of five city starts in late 2013 and I decided to buy a few more of the Bachelor Dukes," he said.

"But then Emerald Duke didn't win another race and the others haven't won until Water Boy today.

"Water Boy has been a consistent placegetter and he didn't have any luck when unplaced at all at the Sunshine Coast at his last start."
