John Sadler has hopes for Bengal Cat to turn into a spring contender following her maiden win at Flemington.

But the trainer will bring the daughter of Bernadini back to Flemington in search of a black-type win before turning her out for a break an setting her for a VRC Oaks campaign.

Ridden by Craig Williams, Bengal Cat ($10) scored a last-stride win over the favourite El Greco ($1.65 fav) in the Murray Cox Handicap on Saturday.

Sadler has the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final over 1600m on July 11 pencilled in for her next start.

"Hopefully she could be an Oaks filly in the spring," Sadler said.

Sadler said he has always held a high opinion of the filly and he was impressed by the way she attacked the line.

"She's got a lovely disposition and she's unflappable," he said.

"I'm really excited about her."

Williams, who moved to within one win of Dwayne Dunn in the Melbourne jockeys' premiership race, also believes the filly has a bright future.

"Before I pulled her out and I felt she was floating and it took her 50 metres to focus again," Williams said.
