Injured jockeys Herrmann and Fawke improve

Monday 22 June 2015, 5:22pm

Injured Adelaide jockey Amy Herrmann has undergone successful surgery to stabilise a spinal fracture while Queensland apprentice Sairyn Fawke is improving after a fall in the Rockhampton Cup.

Herrmann was hurt when her horse stumbled after the last obstacle in a jumps trial at Morphettville on Friday.

Her father Peter said in a statement on Monday her condition was serious but stable.

"Doctors performed surgery over the weekend to stabilise a spinal fracture and this was successful," Herrmann said.

"Amy's doctors are keeping her in an induced coma while things settle down. They will decide in the days ahead when to gradually bring her out of this state."

Fawke was taken to Brisbane after a three-horse fall at Rockhampton on Saturday.

Racing Queensland said he was doing well and his injuries were expected to heal without surgery but it would be some time before he rode again.
