Brazen Beau finishes second at Ascot

Sunday 21 June 2015, 1:35am

Brazen Beau has finished a close second at the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot missing out to 14-1 chance Undrafted from America.

Astaire was third.

Brazen Beau, under Craig Williams, jumped from the outside barrier 15 and ran solo along the grandstand early on.

The horse, equal 7-2 favourite, was in the field alongside fellow Australian sprinter Wandjina trained by Gai Waterhouse.

Brazen Beau trainer Chris Waller said "full credit" to the winner after the race.

Aussie horses have performed well in the English race previously with Black Caviar winning in 2012 and Choisir triumphing in 2003.

Starspangledbanner, a dual Australian Group One winner for trainer Leon Corstens, won in 2010 for Aidan O'Brien after he was bought by Coolmore.

Most of Brazen Beau's 38 syndicate owners from four Australian states, the United Kingdom and Fiji were at Ascot for the Diamond Jubilee.

Along with family and friends they made up a 90-strong Team Brazen Beau.

The horse is now set to stand at Darley's Northwood Park in Victoria in 2015 after a stud deal was finalised following his Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes win last spring.

But he could have one more race after Saturday with Waller hoping he'll line up in the July Cup at Newmarket.
