Blackout of Vic races on TV continues

Friday 19 June 2015, 6:31pm

The television blackout of Victorian thoroughbred racing will continue on Saturday.

The Victoria Racing Club has yet to sign an agreement with Racing Victoria over the proposal from Seven West Media for the future broadcast rights of Victorian racing.

The Melbourne Racing Club, Moonee Valley Racing Club and Country Racing Victoria have already agreed to go with the Seven West Media deal which will broadcast Victorian races on its digital channel 78.

The Tabcorp-owned Sky Channel has stopped showing Victorian racing on pay-tv as well as in pubs and clubs after its most recent short-term deal with the Victorian industry ended on Monday.

Tabcorp is still showing Victorian racing in its 92 TAB retail outlets in Victoria.

The racing.com digital broadcast of Saturday's Moonee Valley meeting is available on desktops, tablets and mobile phones.

The television deal is scheduled to begin on August 29 but Seven says it will re-transmit the Racing Live coverage from racing.com on an interim basis if and when the VRC signs.

There will be free entry to Moonee Valley on Saturday while the Australian Turf Club it will show the racing.com digital vision of the Moonee Valley meeting on its big screens at Randwick.
