Paul King will abandon his safety net that is provincial racing to try to parlay a spectacular winning ride into more city success at Rosehill on Saturday.

As his jockeys' room rivals were hauled before stewards over their lack of judgment, King earned widespread acclaim for his front-running tactics on Lovethebeaches to win last week's Stayers Cup at Randwick.

It marked a rare city appearance and even rarer metropolitan win for the jockey who moved from Perth 18 months ago and hasn't been afraid to work his way up.

King rode a winner at Kembla Grange before driving to Randwick but there was never a thought about trying a similar provincial-city feat on Saturday.

"Newcastle is too far. I said to my manager (Wayne Harris) I didn't mind doing it last week but it's too far between Rosehill and Newcastle," King said.

"I said `no, we'll just ride in town no matter how many rides we get'.

"Hopefully last Saturday put a bit focus on, not only the race, but what I can produce.

"Obviously it's all good publicity for me and it's something that livened up an average day at Randwick considering the main focus was on Doomben."

King will have two Rosehill rides for Kristen Buchanan with Two Blue the obvious pick of the pair from an inside draw as a $7.50 chance in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap.

He said apart from the fleet-footed Flamboyant Lass who he rode to win at Randwick in January, most of his city rides have been on outsiders.

"Realistically I haven't had the best rides in town when I've gone before," King said.

"It's a tricky one to work out.

"Do I stay in town for a forty to one chance? Or do I go to the provincials and have six or seven rides and have a couple that look promising that they can win races?

"Obviously if I get offered rides in town I'd prefer to ride there if possible but you've got to try and get an even mix of it."
