Consistent Darci Be Good will have to set a modern-day weight-carrying record to win the Ipswich Cup.

The Listed Ipswich Cup has a reputation for producing lightly weighted winners and Darci Be Good is near the top of the handicaps with 57kg.

Since a metric scale was introduced in 1973, the highest weight carried to victory in the Cup is 56.5kg, shared by last year's winner Brave Ali and Golden Rhapsody in 1981.

Trainer Andrew Williamson believes Darci Be Good is paying for his consistency but is up to the task on Saturday.

"He won the Hawkesbury Gold Cup and was second in the Group One Champion Stakes before he came to us so he has always been up in the weights," Williamson said.

However, he pointed out the minimum weight for the Ipswich Cup is 54kg which means Darci Be Good will carry only only 3kg over the limit.

"Damian Browne is going to make the trip to ride him and that is a big plus as well," Williamson said.

Darci Be Good has won three races and been minor placed seven times in 14 starts for Williamson since joining his stable from Kembla Grange trainer Bede Murray in August.

"Darci Be Good came to us in very good shape from Bede but he really seems to have bloomed up here," Williamson said.

"I would love to see him win a stakes race for the connections but even more so for the horse himself - he deserves it."

Showers are predicted for Ipswich on Saturday and that concerns Williamson.

"He isn't at his best on really soft tracks but I think his best surface is the old dead rating and we might get that on Saturday," Williamson said.

Bookmakers have Darci Be Good a $6 second favourite behind Adelaide galloper Baligari ($4.20).

Baligari has raced twice during the Brisbane winter carnival and he peaks for Saturday's race after a close second in the Premier's Cup at Doomben on May 23.
