Moloney, Boomwaa back together at Valley

Friday 5 June 2015, 3:22pm

Robbie Laing's Stradbroke Handicap hopes for Lord Of The Sky came to nothing but the trainer is a chance to post a consolation win on Saturday with another sprinter.

Lord Of The Sky was ruled out of Brisbane's premier sprint on Friday after the horse pulled a plate and split the bulb on his off-fore foot while on his way to Queensland.

Laing will have three-year-old Boomwaa lining up in the William Hill Handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday and the gelding is the $4.40 favourite.

Patrick Moloney reunites with Boomwaa and the last time the apprentice rode the sprinter in a race, they combined for a front-running win in fast time at Moonee Valley.

Boomwaa has gone winless in five starts since just missing Miss Andretti's 1200m Moonee Valley record.

His most recent outing was in last month's Scone Guineas when led before weakening late to just miss the placings over 1400m.

"He has freshened up well from his fifth at Scone," Laing said.

"He worked terrific on Tuesday morning.

"He's in good order and getting back to Moonee Valley suits him."

Moloney is leading Melbourne's apprentices' premiership and rode a treble at Moonee Valley last Saturday to move into fourth in the overall jockeys' premiership in Melbourne.

Laing said three-year-old Dezannam, also entered for Moonee Valley, could be saved for a benchmark race at Flemington on Wednesday.
