Boban a definite Stradbroke runner

Friday 29 May 2015, 8:58am

Doomben 10,000 winner Boban has been confirmed as a definite starter in the $2 million Stradbroke Handicap.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding is the 58kg topweight for Brisbane's premier race on Saturday week.

Waller issued a statement on Friday saying Boban had come through the Doomben 10,000 in good order and would take his place in the Stradbroke.

"Although we concede winning the Stradbroke with the top weight and against some high quality opposition will be challenging, we feel that both the horse and the owners deserve the opportunity to win another Group One race with very good prize money on offer, and therefore it is our plan to run Boban in the Stradbroke Handicap," the statement said.

Waller's other definite runner is three-year-old Delectation to be ridden by Glen Boss at 52kg while Glyn Schofield retains the ride on Boban.

With Boban in the field, Stradbroke weights will not be raised and Tommy Berry will continue his diet to ride the Gai Waterhouse-trained favourite Najoom at 50.5kg.
