Ulundi chasing successive Lord Stakes wins

Tuesday 25 December 2012, 12:45pm

A campaign blueprint used with success last year will underpin Ulundi's bid for back-to-back Lord Stakes victories at Mornington on Thursday.

Ulundi will try to win the $120,000 Listed race off the same five-week break that delivered a career highlight for the galloper in 2012.

"He goes into the race off a similar preparation with the exception that he didn't run in the Ballarat Cup this time around," trainer Pat Carey told www.racingvictoria.net.au.

"We've formed the view that a mile and a quarter (2000m) is as far as he wants. He's also a horse who goes very well fresh in his races."

Ulundi will be racing for the first time since a close fourth in the Group Three Eclipse Stakes at the end of the Victorian spring carnival.

The son of Helenus ran third in last year's Eclipse before finishing midfield in the Ballarat Cup.

In-form jockey Brad Rawiller will Ulundi who has 58kg, a 4kg lift on last year's win over La Rocket and Our Spirits Bay.

Full Peal, chasing a hat-trick after Ararat and Caulfield wins, will be one of Ulundi's main dangers, along with talented mares Secret Liaison and Tai Tai Tess.
