Jusufovic reaping the rewards of hard work

Friday 1 May 2015, 4:43pm

Enver Jusufovic is a hard task master when it comes to assessing not only his horses but also his own performance.

With 15 horses in work and 30 on his books, Jusufovic may not be in Victoria's upper echelon of trainers but is always striving to better himself.

A decision made five years ago is starting to reap rewards with Jusufovic saying the 2014/15 season has been his best with two months still remaining.

Jusufovic has prepared 10 winners for the season at a strike rate of 16 per cent after two seasons ago sending out just five winners.

"Five years ago I walked around the stable and thought I wasn't going anywhere and I needed to change things," he said.

"I walked around the stable the other day and thought this is all good for the future.

"I had put processes in place in the business where I tried to do it all myself, but I realised I couldn't and now I've got the right staff that are making the right decisions that I just have to tick off."

Jusufovic heads to Caulfield on Saturday where he has Pathways contesting the Ern Jensen Funerals Plate (1100m).

Pathways won the first three starts of her current campaign before finishing fifth to Miss Promiscuity over 1100m at Caulfield on April 18.

Jusufovic says the mare's record shows she prefers her races run closer together than her past two starts.

"Perhaps the three weeks between runs, she may have just needed it," he said.

"I'm happy with her going into this race but she's right up to her mark in this class.

"It's a tough race, but she's drawn very well and she certainly has every opportunity to run in the first three."

Glen Boss, who rode the mare to her three victories before her recent defeat, is back aboard on Saturday.
