Robl to miss prized Magic Millions ride

Saturday 22 December 2012, 6:51pm

Peter Robl will miss the prized ride on Magic Millions Classic favourite Assail after being handed his second suspension in a week at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Robl, who changed the start date of a ban incurred at Rosehill a week ago so he could ride at the Villiers Stakes meeting, was outed for shifting out on runner-up Baltra and causing interference to Gaze In Awe over the concluding stages of the Schweppes Handicap.

He will now be out until January 19, a week after the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast.

Robl won the Magic Millions Wyong Classic on Thursday aboard Assail which took the filly to the top of the market for the $2 million event.

Stewards handed Robl a seven meeting suspension for his Warwick Farm infringement, taking into account the jockey's guilty plea, his poor record of six suspensions in the past 12 months and the fact he would miss the Magic Millions.

"I just plead for a reprimand. I have no excuse for it, I've got a fortnight suspension already and I'm asking myself what I'm doing," Robl said to stewards before he was given the ban.

Jason Collett was also suspended for shifting out over the final stages when he won on Heart Testa in the opening race.

His six meeting suspension starts after the Boxing Day meeting at Rosehill and he can return on January 4.
