Pasadena Girl deserves chance in G1: Moody

Tuesday 31 March 2015, 5:25pm

Pasadena Girl has already exceeded expectations as a two-year-old, enough to earn the filly her chance in a Group One race.

Such has been the impact Pasadena Girl has made in her two starts in Melbourne, the unbeaten youngster has been paid up as a late entry for Saturday's Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

"She's always shown us very good ability, but you keep looking at her pedigree and think she shouldn't be doing this at this point," trainer Peter Moody said.

Pasadena Girl has finished strongly to win the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) and Group Three TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in her two starts, earning connections more than $160,000 in stakes.

The late fee to run in the $1 million race was $22,000.

"She's done a good job and 1400 metres looks like it will suit," Moody said.

Group One Blue Diamond Stakes winner Pride Of Dubai is the $3.50 favourite for the Sires' and has barrier six in a field of 11 which includes Golden Slipper runner-up English and fourth placegetter Ready For Victory.

The Mick Price-trained colt Ready For Victory veered off the track in the final 200m in the Golden Slipper, crossing the line wide out on the course which cost him finishing closer than 1-3/4 lengths from the winner Vancouver.

Price has changed a piece of gear, opting for a lugging bit, but decided against also applying blinkers.

"I did try blinkers but we felt it might get him travelling up a bit hard," Price said.

Ready For Victory shares the second line of betting at $4.60 with English while Pasadena Girl is at $7.
