Ondina earns black type status

Tuesday 31 March 2015, 9:45am

Ondina is certainly proving to be a bargain buy, given that she earned black type status on Saturday at only her 6th career start, when winning the Listed SAJC Laelia Stakes at Morphettville. The three year old filly by Manhattan Rain was purchased by Star at the 2013 Magic Millions National sale for just $40,000 and has already earned in excess of $100,000 in prize money to date.

Ondina was ridden forward from an outside gate to take up the running of the 1,600 metres...a distance which she seems to relish. She led all the way and found the line strongly, winning by a long head and giving jockey Blake Spriggs his second Stakes success for Star, having previously guided top quality sprinter Squamosa to success in the Group 3 Run To The Rose at Rosehill.

Congratulations to the winning Ondina owners David Henderson, Rhonda Henderson, Jan Henderson, Gaye Smith, Gary Greedy, Leon Laskey, Maureen McLeish, David McLeish, Phillip Vanny, John Menzies, N B C Racing (Manager: Caroline Bayot), Wayne Cook.
