Ryan to open Hawesbury stable

Sunday 8 March 2015, 3:06pm

Trainer Gerald Ryan is expanding his interests with a new complex at Hawkesbury to complement his large Rosehill stable.

Adjacent to Hawkesbury Racecourse, the property has 23 boxes and 11 day yards with another barn being built to bring the total accommodation to 40.

The satellite stable is a joint venture between Gerald Ryan Racing and long-time stable supporter Damion Flower's Jadeskye Racing.

Ryan's son Blake and his fiancee Jessica Mitchell will oversee the day to day running of the stable.

"The goal is to expand our business and to provide our clients with a valuable addition to the training and maintenance of our racing stock, presenting a different environment and alternative options in conjunction with our main base at Rosehill," Ryan said.

"This property will endeavour to provide our business with everything that is required to grow and maintain our competitiveness in the ever tough Sydney market.

"It's only half an hour from Hawkesbury to Rosehill so we can move the horses easily."

Ryan and Flower had a luckless day at Randwick on Saturday with Golden Slipper hopeful Perignon and high profile colt Rubick.

Perignon found herself with nowhere to go at the business end of the Reisling Stakes while Rubick suffered a similar fate when he could not get a clear run in the Challenge Stakes and finished third.

Perignon finished seventh and she will have to rely on attrition to gain a berth in the $3.5 million Slipper on March 21.

Her stablemate Fireworks ran third in the Reisling but has yet to be nominated.

The Widden Stakes winner filly is assured of a start if owner John Camilleri decides to pay the $150,000 late entry.

Plans for Rubick to run in the Group One Galaxy (1100m) on Slipper day remain intact.
