Sam Clipperton booked for Sweynesse in G1

Saturday 7 March 2015, 6:51pm

John O'Shea has put Sam Clipperton on notice to ride three-year-old Sweynesse at 50kg in the Doncaster Mile.

The Godolphin trainer approached Clipperton at Randwick on Saturday to sound out his chances of getting down to the light weight which the jockey hasn't ridden at since he was an apprentice.

Clipperton didn't hesitate to accept the mount on the top colt who finished runner-up to Hallowed Crown in Saturday's Randwick Guineas with James McDonald in the saddle.

"I'm confident I'll do it. I ride 54 which is a big difference but I'm riding 52 next week and the key thing is I've got a month's notice," Clipperton said.

"It's a big effort but I'll make sure I'm fit and ready.

"It's a great opportunity which I jumped at."

Sweynesse will have his next run in the Rosehill Guineas before dropping back to a mile in the Doncaster where he will meet Hallowed Crown 2kg better at the weights.
