A sense of timing surrounds the Golden Slipper preparation of English after the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly cemented her spot in the $3.5 million race with a strong win at Randwick on Saturday.

As Godolphin's Exosphere did at Warwick Farm a week ago, English made the progression from victory in a Kembla Grange maiden to overwhelm her rivals and claim the Group Two Reisling Stakes.

Her three quarters of a length decision over Ottoman came as no surprise to punters who supported her to start a $2.60 favourite.

The win solicited a glowing assessment from Waterhouse who won the Reisling with Overreach en route to her 2013 Golden Slipper success.

"Today was her chance to say `yes, I'm a real live Slipper hope' and she goes in at her third run," Waterhouse said.

"It's perfect timing."

Blake Shinn settled English worse than midfield and the filly chimed in with the leaders inside the final 200-metres.

She scored with something in hand, convincing Shinn she would make her presence felt at Rosehill in two weeks.

"Definitely. She's got a sense of timing about her," Shinn said.

"Heading towards a big race you don't want to gut her. I had the race won, I felt, at the 250 (metres) and I tried to look after her the best I could."

English's Golden Slipper odds trimmed from $15 to $11 on the back of her win.
