Sheza Gypsy wins Country Championship heat

The Michael Byers-trained Sheza Gypsy has won the $100,000 heat of the Country Championships at Port Macquarie in a tight finish from local Explosive Scene.

Both horses qualify for the $300,000 final at Randwick on April 4.

Binalong Road and One Last Poet were the first horses to qualify via last Sunday's heat at Bathurst.

Sheza Gypsy ($8) was ridden by Blake Spriggs and got the decision in a blanket finish to win Friday's race by a head from the Marc Quinn-trained Explosive Scene ($21) ridden by Allan Chau.

Favourites Prince Mayted ($3.60) and Sixty Paces ($3.80) finished sixth and seventh respectively after vying for the lead up the straight.
