A trip to Sydney for The Championships goes on the line for Akavoroun at Flemington.
Trainer Ciaron Maher said the gelding needed to start winning again to warrant heading to Randwick where he holds entries for the Doncaster Mile and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Part of that process begins in the Group Three TAB Rewards Stakes over 1400m on Saturday.
"Sydney is definitely an option for him depending on how he goes," Maher said.
Akavoroun will be having his second run back after running fourth first-up over 1200m at Flemington on February 21 and Maher said the gelding would appreciate the rise in distance.
The son of Lacryma Cristi has had five starts over 1400m, registering four wins and a midfield finish in the Group One Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield last September.
"He's had four wins at the distance and he wasn't beaten that far in the Rupert Clarke either," Maher said.
"He was good through the line the other day and the step up in distance should be good.
"He's won there and he's got a nice weight also."
Maher says Akavoroun has trained on nicely since his first-up run and appears bright and well.
The trainer will also be hoping to capture a black type victory with the talented Chloe In Paris when she lines up in the Bob Hoysted Handicap over 1000m.
A daughter of Exceed And Excel from the former Group race winning mare Innovation Girl, Chloe In Paris will be aiming to make in three straight this campaign.
"She's been a filly that has always had plenty of ability," Maher said.
"She's had two previous runs down the straight for a win and was narrowly beaten at the other one, and she's now had a couple of runs back.
"This is Listed company so hopefully she can get some black type, whether that be a placing or a win."
Chloe In Paris is entered for the Group One TJ Smith Stakes on April 4.
