Passatorio at home at Sunshine Coast

Friday 6 March 2015, 12:42pm

Passatorio will be in his comfort zone at the Sunshine Coast but his trainer is certain he can earn his way to a winter carnival campaign in the city.

The gelding is aiming for his fourth successive win on his home track in Saturday's Hot 91.9 Hcp (1200m).

Passatorio carried 59kg to beat Snippets Caviar on February 18 but drops 5kg at the metropolitan class meeting and meets Snippets Caviar 4.5kg better.

"He does look well weighted," Kendrick said.

"He won his first start and then we had a few problems with him. But they seem to have come right and he won his two starts before a spell and then first-up.

"All four of his wins have been at the Sunshine Coast but I am sure he can win on other tracks."

Passatorio's past three wins have been on rain-affected tracks but Kendrick believes he can be just as competitive on dry tracks and has the potential to be a chance in the stakes class during the winter.

The trainer is also confident last-start two-year-old winner Montana Star will be just as effective on a good track in the Past Roos Hcp (1200m).

"It was a heavy 10 last start but Montana Star got through it well. I think he will go equally well on a dry track," Kendrick said.

"He is well bred being by a Blue Diamond winner in Reward For Effort and we will see after Saturday where we go with him."

Jim Byrne rides Passatorio while Glen Colless replaces Luke Tarrant on Montana Star.

Tarrant, who outrode his allowance with his 80th metropolitan winner at Ipswich on Wednesday, will be in Sydney on Saturday.

He has a nine-win lead over Byrne in the jockeys's premiership despite spending a month on the sidelines for a whip offence.
