Flemington debutant still in Slipper mix

Thursday 5 March 2015, 5:34pm

Ready For Victory will launch a late bid for a Golden Slipper berth when he makes his debut at Flemington on Saturday.

Trainer Mick Price confirmed the colt would head to Sydney for the $3.5 million Slipper if he won the Listed Festival Of Racing 1000.

"It will be very new to him to take him to Sydney and expect him to go the reverse way in what looks to be a pretty hot Slipper this year," Price told Melbourne radio station RSN.

"But you certainly can't win it sitting at home so if he does win (at Flemington) that's where he'll go."

Price did have Blue Diamond aspirations for Ready For Victory but those plans were aborted when the horse succumbed to a cold.

The youngster had a short break to recover and Price expects him to be prominent in Saturday's straight-track race.

"He's pretty educated, he's full of himself, he's a good colt and I think he'll be hard to beat," Price said.

Owned by Eliza Park International, Ready For Victory is on the second line of betting for Saturday's race behind Heatherly who scored a convincing win on debut at Moonee Valley last month when she beat subsequent Blue Diamond runner-up Reemah.

She then went to the Blue Diamond fillies' Prelude (1100m) which she led before compounding to finish fifth.

Claudia Jean, who was scratched from last Saturday's Blue Diamond with a hoof issue that has since been rectified, shares the third line of betting at $4.60 along with Take Pride, a Flemington winner who was third in the Talindert Stakes last start.
