Beriman wins apprentices' race at Sandown

Wednesday 4 March 2015, 5:44pm

Apprentice Jackie Beriman was back in the winner's circle at Sandown on Wednesday just days after celebrating a Group One win in a different role at Caulfield.

Beriman was victorious aboard the Peter Moody-trained Wild Fire in the National Apprentice Riders Race (1200m), which featured junior riders from around the country.

On Saturday, Beriman was the strapper for the Robert Smerdon-trained Shamal Wind who scored a stunning victory in the Group One Oakleigh Plate with jockey Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.

Beriman, who is apprenticed to Smerdon and rides Shamal Wind in her trackwork, said being part of the mare's Group One triumph was a big thrill.

"It was very exciting to be able to get the opportunity to do that," Beriman said.

"I think she might be off to Sydney now so hopefully I might get the gig there."

Wild Fire went into Wednesday's race off a freshen up and proved far too good, sprinting away to win by 3-1/4 lengths from Sir Mask with I Am Titanium another nose away third.
