Riley granted stay pending appeal to VCAT

Monday 2 March 2015, 6:29pm

Mark Riley has been granted another stay of proceedings and can continue training pending his appeal against a three-year ban.

Riley was disqualified last week by racing authorities who found him guilty of a bi-carb offence relating to a higher than allowed TC02 level returned by one of his horses in July last year.

The trainer gained a short-term stay of proceedings at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal which allowed him to continue training and saddle up Of The Brave who finished unplaced in Saturday's $1 millon Blue Diamond Stakes.

Riley returned to VCAT on Monday and was granted a further stay of proceedings until his appeal against the disqualification which is scheduled for March 26.

Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey said his panel had opposed the stay given the serious nature of the charge.
