Nechita heading to Coolmore Stud Stakes

Tuesday 2 October 2012, 10:54am

Boom filly Nechita's spring campaign is back on track and she will be aimed at the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes month after making a full recovery from a wound sustained during her Golden Rose defeat.

The talented filly had to have four stitches to repair a cut to her right front leg following her sixth as favourite in the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) and was sent to the paddock after treatment to recuperate.

But trainer John Thompson is now keen to press on to the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 3 with the filly who returned to his Randwick stables on Monday.

"She worked this morning," Thompson said on Tuesday.

"She trotted out sound, the stitches are out and the wound looks good. She's appreciated the week freshen-up so we're pretty happy."

Nechita remained in the stable for a week after the Golden Rose for treatment to make sure the wound did not get infected.

She was then sent for a short break in the paddock before a decision was made whether to press on this spring.

"She's really freshened up and seems in good spirits," Thompson said.

"I'll just see how she trains in the next two weeks to see whether we need to have a run going into the Coolmore or just give her a barrier trial up the straight (at Flemington) and go straight into it."

The Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) on Saturday was an original spring target for Nechita but in her absence Thompson and owner Nathan Tinkler will be represented by last-start Tea Rose Stakes winner Longport.
