Red Cadeaux arrives back in Australia

Saturday 14 February 2015, 6:48pm

MELBOURNE, Feb 14 AAP - Popular UK stayer Red Cadeaux has arrived back in familiar surroundings to embark on a fifth Australian campaign.

The three-time Melbourne Cup runner-up landed in Melbourne on Saturday before heading to the Werribee Quarantine Centre where he has been housed for his four Melbourne Cup campaigns.

The Ed Dunlop-trained veteran will be racing in Australia for the first time during an autumn carnival with the Group One Australian Cup at Flemington on March 14 his first-up target before heading to Sydney for The Championships.

Red Cadeaux was accompanied to Melbourne by Dunlop's travelling foreman Robin Trevor-Jones and track rider Steve Nicholson.

Trevor-Jones said Red Cadeaux had arrived in good order.

"He's done this four times before so its nothing new for him," Trevor-Jones said.

"We're really happy with the way he travelled and the condition he's arrived here in, although it's a bit warmer than what were used to."

One of the stables at the Werribee quarantine centre was renamed the Red Cadeaux Barn after last year's spring carnival and the stayer will be housed there during his time at Werribee.

Nine-year-old Red Cadeaux finished second to Protectionist in the Melbourne Cup last November, the third time he has had to settle for second in Australia's richest race.
