Elmantosh has again had no luck with the barrier draw at Doomben as he attempts to win his first race in more than a year.
The Bruce Hill-trained five-year-old, who will tackle 2200m for the first time on Saturday, will jump from the outside gate in the field of seven.
Elmantosh has won five of his 26 races and recorded 10 minor placings and a further five fourths.
Hill is sure with any luck Elmantosh could have twice as many wins.
"The big problem is he never draws a good barrier. It means he gets too far back or he is ridden upside down off the pace," Hill said.
"When you are coming from back in the field you always need luck and it rarely goes his way."
Elmantosh was given top weight of 59kg in the XXXX Gold Handicap (2220m) but apprentice Matt McGuren will claim 2kg.
Elmantosh has had one start at a middle distance, finishing fourth over 2100m at Eagle Farm in August but again he had little luck in the run.
"Elmantosh races like a stayer," Hill said.
"He can hit a flat spot in his shorter races when the others get away from him. He should be suited to get home strongly over 2200 metres.
"One thing Mattie (McGuren) has been able to get him to settle which is a big advantage."
Hill has received some good news about his stable star Teronado who suffered a career-threatening injury when stripped on a hind leg in the George Main Stakes at Randwick in September.
"We were lucky because we were at Randwick and could go straight to surgery at the vet's hospital there," he said.
"The operation seems to be a success and we have him in the paddock now for some R and R."
"There is a way to go yet but all the signs are he will recover and hopefully race again," Hill said.
The winner of four of his 16 starts, Teronado finished third in the 2014 Rosehill Guineas before struggling on a soggy track in the Australian Derby.
