Diamond picture to become clearer: Price

Thursday 12 February 2015, 2:34pm

Mick Price insists he has the horse to give him a second Blue Diamond Stakes win.

But the trainer is also aware that the landscape around the build-up to Victoria's richest two-year-old race could change dramatically after two Preludes are run at Caulfield on Saturday.

Price, who won the Blue Diamond with Samaready in 2012, will saddle up Secret Agenda in the fillies division and as well as Stylish Assassin and Kirabo in the colts and geldings Prelude.

Secret Agenda is the second favourite for the $1 million Blue Diamond (1200m) on February 28 behind Fontiton with both fillies pitted against each other over 1100m on Saturday.

"I think I have the right horse," Price said of Secret Agenda.

"I'm really happy with my filly and it will certainly be a good measure of where we are in relation to the opposition after Saturday."

Stylish Assassin, well supported for his debut before finishing down the track, has worked well and Price took the colt for a schooling session at Caulfield on Thursday afternoon.

"His trials have been good but his temperament is a bit tricky," Price said.

"I put a pair of ear muffs on and took him over to have a look at the race-day stalls and to get him a bit more experience.

"Exceed And Excel colts need to be handled carefully and I need to be assured that he won't sweat before the race as I don't want his temperament being an excuse."
