Harrison and Gollan continue winning spree

Wednesday 11 February 2015, 5:15pm

Tegan Harrison and Tony Gollan confirmed their reputation as one of the best jockey-trainer teams in Queensland racing with their 22nd winner for the season on Wednesday.

Gollan is now a runaway leader in the metropolitan premiership on 44 wins while Harrison is in third place in the jockeys' title on 30 winners.

Harrison led all the way on Minkus who ran a class record in winning the fillies and mares division of the maiden Plate (1100m) at the Gold Coast.

In her first season as a senior jockey, Harrison has been in great form and especially this year with 13 wins since January 1.

Gollan is her main supporter and their 22 wins put them on course to at least test Brian York and Bruce McLachlan's Brisbane jockey-trainer combination record of 43 wins set in 1987-88.

"I am really pleased for Tegan. She rides my horses well and she is a hard worker. If she keeps going a premiership is not out of her reach in the long term," Gollan said.

Harrison was equally full of praise for Gollan.

"Tony has stuck by me and it is a case of being lucky enough to get on the good horses," she said.

Minkus' win was the first leg of a maiden division double for Gollan as he also took the colts, entires and geldings race which was won by Nudgee ($1.95).

Nudgee was ridden by Gollan's apprentice Allanah Fancourt who had the gelding in a handy position before scoring an easy win.

"I have made conscious decision this season to aim my better maiden horses at metropolitan races where the prize money is good," Gollan said.

"They were the right races for Minkus and Nudgee who had both done well during spells. I hope they can both go on to win in better company."
