Munce and Wood laud Sizzling victory

Chris Munce and Kelso Wood were reaching for superlatives after Sizzling won the Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm.

Wood fought back tears after Sizzling, a dominant $1.60 favourite, proved beyond doubt on Saturday he has recovered from a back ailment which dogged him during the spring carnival.

"It's unbelievable what that horse can run for his last 150 metres," Wood said.

"I think he's going better now than he's ever gone.

"His trackwork's been outstanding and when I jumped him out on Tuesday over 800 metres he made up about 12 lengths without being really pushed."

Wood said Sizzling would have his next start in the Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 29 which would be his final lead-up race to the Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast a fortnight later.

The colt's odds for the Guineas have been slashed from $5.50 to $3.50.

Munce said he wasn't concerned when Sizzling was conceding the leaders more than six lengths start in the middle stages.

"I just kept him out of trouble early and mid-race because I didn't want him getting buffeted about in the ruck," he said.

"I wasn't too worried about sitting three deep on a good speed like that because I knew they'd come back to me.

"About the 500 metres they skipped away and I thought `well this is going to test you boy, we'll see how good you are' but he never fails to deliver.

"What he did today was breathtaking. He's an amazing animal - I love him dearly."

Munce said Sizzling's Melbourne campaign, which produced defeats at Caulfield and Flemington, weren't a true indicator of his ability.

"Caulfield was a non-event the way it was run and at Flemington he did the injury when he came out of the barriers because he was too keen which isn't like him," he said.

"But getting back home to his normal routine has done him the world of good."
