Thurlow tops Golden Slipper order of entry

Monday 9 February 2015, 2:19pm

Qatar Bloodstock filly Thurlow heads the latest prize money order of entry for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper.

Thurlow's win in the Group Three Chairman's Stakes at Sandown on Saturday catapulted the two-year-old to the top of the list in updated Slipper qualifying figures after the weekend's racing.

She has now banked almost $190,000 in three starts after also winning a Listed race during the Melbourne spring carnival.

Trained by Robert Smerdon, Thurlow is rated a $51 Golden Slipper chance but she is much shorter for the Blue Diamond Stakes after firming to $15.

Qatar Bloodstock, owned by Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, has emerged as a major force in world racing.

Sheikh Fahad is best known in Australia as the owner of Dunaden, the 2011 Melbourne Cup winner which also claimed the 2012 Caulfield Cup.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Vancouver is second on the Slipper order of entry with almost $151,000 in earnings, courtesy of wins in the Breeders' Plate and the Canonbury Stakes.

The unbeaten colt was promoted to Golden Slipper favouritism after his Canonbury win.

Fillies dominate the latest prize money order with Godolphin's Bantam joining Vancouver and Of The Brave as the only three colts in the top 10.

The Golden Slipper will be run at Rosehill on March 21.
