Fancied runners remain in Slipper mix

Wednesday 4 February 2015, 1:21pm

Godolphin remain in a strong position for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper with 17 youngsters still in contention after second acceptances closed this week.

Furnaces and Ottoman, which share the second line of Slipper betting, are among the Godolphin group along with recent debut winners Holler and Haptic.

Gai Waterhouse, trainer of unbeaten colt and current favourite Vancouver, also paid up for 17 horses while Hawkes Racing, which won last year's Slipper with Mossfun, kept 14 in the mix.

A total of 170 two-year-olds - 85 fillies and the same number of colts and geldings - remained when second acceptances closed on Tuesday.

The juvenile feature is at Rosehill on March 21, three weeks after the Blue Diamond Stakes in Melbourne.
