Leading not ideal for Jet Style: trainer

Friday 14 December 2012, 1:54pm

If the speed maps and betting markets are right, Jet Style will be leading in the Coca-Cola Amatil Quality at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

But that's not necessarily the ideal scenario for Jet Style, according to trainer Donald Baker.

Jet Style has been identified as the only leader in the field and his expected role is reflected in pre-post betting which has him a clear-cut $2.10 favourite.

Jockey Chris Munce won't be tied down to instructions but Baker is adamant leading isn't his preferred option for the gelding.

"I think he's a lot better horse when he sits off the speed and has the last crack at them," Baker said.

"I'd prefer one of the other runners to take up the front running but I'll leave it up to Chris.

"He's had three rides on him for three wins so you can't argue with that.

Jet Style will carry 58kg on Saturday, rising 2kg on his Recognition Stakes win over the same course and distance on December 1.

"The 58 kilograms is a bit of a worry because he's never won carrying this sort of weight before but by the same token he's probably never been racing as good as he is now," Baker said.

"I can't fault the horse's condition. He still seems above himself and let's hope it's not over yet."

Jet Style has been a revelation since joining Baker's Toowoomba stables at the start of this year's winter carnival.

"The owners bought him out of the paddock for $3000 and he's won nearly $200,000 since he's been with me," Baker said.

Meanwhile, Robert Heathcote will delay Greytfilly's return to racing for another week, scratching her from the Calaway Gal Stakes.

"I felt she wasn't quite ready to take on Missy Longstocking this week but she can run against the males the following week at Doomben in an 1110-metre race," he said.
